You are a teacher at Monroe Middle School. The school is located in a community where the parents are insistent that their children should be able to demonstrate their progress on written achievement tests. However, you are convinced that students will learn better, be able to think critically, and apply their knowledge through a hands-on, inquiry-based program. You also believe that it is important to assess students in a way that is complementary to instruction. You have been criticized by some irate parents who claim that the way you are assessing their children is not a true measure of what they really have learned.
