Do you think it is possible to feed a global human population of 9 billion? Speculate on what the planet’s environment would be like in such an eventuality.

Yes, if we were to have to feed 9 billion people our earth would have to make laws against polluting and find alternative fuels. Our society has always adapted to the ever growing population. We would have to plant more crops and raise more livestock but I believe that we could support 9 billion people.

Presently, there is plenty of food to feed the world’s population, even though the U.N. estimates that as much as 1 billion people worldwide are chronically undernourished. The current problems are distribution and insufficient funds to buy food. Some advocates for the hungry point to western-style food “giveaways” as major contributors to world hunger; giving food away undermines local agriculture. This might be a fruitful topic of discussion if you have time. Assuming an additional 2.5 billion people could be fed, producing food for them could require much marginal land to be put into production.
