How to do systems of equations- substitution method - algebra?

im a freshman and my teacher taught two types of systems of equations- substitution and elimination. i have elimination down pat where as i have no clue what im doing for substitution. the work in my notebook is not where i can work backwards to find how i solved it. can anyone help me?

Problem:
y = x + 4
3x - 2y = 4
