In the plasmid map for pUC19, it shows that the MCS is within the LacZ alpha gene, and the breakdown of X-gal is often used to identify successful DNA cloning. If the cells transformed from such a plasmid were of the E. Coli strain, then wouldn't the LacZ gene naturally found within the bacteria interfere with the results of the blue/white screening?

Never mind; I'm an idiot. LacZ will only be expressed in E. Coli when allactose is present.
