I know that to tell a pure dominant individual from a heterozygote, a test called a "backcross" is performed. In this, the individual that shows the dominant trait is crossed with a pure recessive. Explain why a pure recessive used in a backbone?

In a test cross, we know what the results SHOULD be if the individual is heterozygous.

Rr X rr
Rr 50% will be dominant trait
rr 50% will be recessive trait

if the individual is Homozygous
RR X rr
Rr 100% will be dominant
