A 5-year-old has a disorder that may be genetically transmitted. The parents would like to have genetic testing performed, but the child refuses, saying, "I don't want to get stuck with a needle." What, if anything, is the ethical solution to this problem?

▸ Have the testing done because the parents have requested it and the child is so young.

▸ Do not perform the test because the child refuses.

▸ Wait until the child is 8 years old and attempt to do the test at that time.

▸ There is no clear answer to this ethical question.
