The antibody molecule is composed of four peptide chains. The two identical long chains are called heavy chains. The two identical short chains are known as light chains. The light chains and heavy chains are held together by disulfide bonds that link the light and heavy chains in such a way that the molecule looks like the letter Y. The Y has three regions, one stem and two arms, connected by a flexible hinge region.
