Can I donate blood if i've had a blood transfusion due to iron deficiency anemia?

When you donate blood you generally have your iron levels tested, and if they're too low they won't take any. In some places you can't donate blood at all if you've had a transfusion because of the risk of transmitted diseases.

The best thing to do would be to call the blood bank and ask. I wouldn't advise it though - why not encourage some of your fit healthy friends to do it instead and buy them a drink to say well done!

If you are still anemic at the time you go to donate blood then they will not let you donate.
