You will be given 7 unknown solutions ? 4 are aqueous and 3 are solids.  Your job is to determine which substance is which.
The seven substances will be one of the following:
Ammonium hydroxide (aq)
Ammonia (aq)
Nitric acid (aq)
Acetic acid (aq)
Potassium Iodide (s)
Potassium Carbonate (s)
Ammonium Chloride (s)

So, we did experiments, and this is what we got:

Solution A:
Litmus: blue
Range pH paper: dark purple, pH 11
Zinc: nothing

Solution B:
Litmus: red
Range pH paper: deep orange, pH 3-4
Zinc: nothing

Solution C:
Litmus: red
Range pH paper: deep red, pH 1
Zinc: bubbles

Solution D:
Litmus: blue
Range pH paper: deep blue, pH 11
Zinc: nothing

Solution E:
Litmus: blue
Range pH paper: very dark blue, pH 12
Zinc: nothing

Solution F:
Litmus: No change
Range pH paper: light orange, pH 6
Zinc: nothing

Solution G:
Litmus: No change
Range pH paper: yellow, pH 7
Zinc: nothing

So, what now? The teacher gave no hints, due tomorrow! Help!

Well most of the time bases are solids... umm... there might be some way to find the pH of the substances.. try googling them.. idk if that helps but good luck! I'm doing this stuff in chem too and I am SO lost.. so yeah.. sry but hopefully that helps Smiling Face with Open Mouth
oh.. ammonium hydroxide has a pH of 11.6 and is deep blue.
