will someone with chronic bronchitis be likely to have problems with acidosis or alkalosis? why?

why would someone die of suffocation if a sand tunnel collapsed on them but their head was above the sand?

I think with # 2, in staying with the Alka/Acidosis theme, the person would panic, causing rapid breathing rate. This in turn would increase PA02, which in turn would cause increase in CO2 (respiratory alkalosis). The person would die due to CO2 toxicity....They would basically go to sleep and not wake up. A lot like Carbon Monoxide poisoning (same concept)

I think that the sand will push on the chest making it hard for the chest to expand when breathing, so the body will not get the amount of oxygen it needs function
