Polyphagia, polyuria, and polydipsia are hallmarks of untreated type 1 diabetes mellitus. Neuro-pathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy are long-term complications associated with diabetes melli-tus. Confusion, loss of coordination, headaches, fatigue, and loss of appetite are not associated with diabetes mellitus. Patients with diabetes may be more susceptible to infection and make take longer to heal if their blood glucose levels are elevated and if they have impaired circulation.
