d. The patient must bite down on the bite block as far away from the teeth as possible, using the full extent of the bite block. The exception to this rule is for the mandibular premolar and molar regions, where the image receptor can be close to the teeth and still remain parallel because of the nearly vertical position of the mandibular premolars and the slightly inward inclination of the mandibular molars.
