A patient is being sent to the labor and

delivery unit for cervical ripening overnight followed by induction of labor the next morning. She is asking what is cervical ripening? How should the nurse respond?
  A) The doctor thinks your cervix is not ready for labor and we need to do exercise to prepare it for labor.
  B) The cervix needs to be soft and thinning to be induced for labor, this helps soften the cervix.
  C) This is when your cervix is ready to have the baby and we are giving you medications tonight to prepare you for labor in the morning.
  D) Cervical ripening is using medications to start labor until the cervix dilates.
