The formula for calculating the tailstock offset is: Offset = L  (D - d)/2  L1 where L is the total length of the piece and L1 is the length of the taper. D is the large diameter and d is the small diameter. If a shaft, that is to be tapered on one end , is 8 inches long and the taper is to be 3 inches in length, the shaft diameter is 1-1/4 inches and the small end of the taper is 1 inch diameter, the offset should be:
 
  A) 1/3 (.333 ) inch B) .250 inch C) .100 inch D) 2.3 (.666 ) in.
