If the one-way ANOVA F test leads us to conclude that at least two of the treatment means differ, then we need to investigate which treatment means differ and estimate how large the differences are. Then, we conduct the pairwise comparisons. In pairwise comparisons, we compare the treatment means two at a time. One way uses these comparisons to compute point estimate of and confidence intervals for pairwise differences. For example, one who wishes to determine whether the mean times required to complete a task differ for three levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) of employee training.
