These primary organizational patterns are commonly used to structure speeches: 1) Topical pattern  a topic divides itself into subdivisions that are clearly defined and relatively equal in importance.  2) Temporal pattern  a topic is explained based on the passage of time (chronologically), very effective in describing events or processes. 3) Spatial pattern  a topic is explored by moving through it, from part to part, side to side, top to bottom, inside to outside, etc. 4) Problem-solution pattern  a topic is explored by identifying a problem or issue and suggesting the best way to handle it. 5) Cause-effect pattern  a topic is explained by showing the connection between two events or elements, focusing on the reasons for its existence and the consequences of its influence. Examples will vary.
