When you lift the cochlea up or down (wih our head) you cause small pressure changes. As each of your ears move, your brain compares these pressure changes. If you're in an elevator , they change by the same amount and you don't feel anything .... BUT if you're on somethign like a rocking boat, your brain gves you a different sensation in an attempt to help you balance .... Slight Smile

no, cochlea are involved in hearing.
its the semicircular canals that help you balance there are three of them located in each ear that makes your brain aware of the direction your head is in.
when brain interprets the proprioceptive signals from periphery and the vestibular signals from ear it is able to decipher the complete body posture and balance the body as desired.

yeah, thats why if you have a middle ear infection the world seems like its spinning and it sucks!! it has something to do with air pressure i think...i dont know..
