I've been looking around online and having a hard time coming up with what lysis is and what does this have to do with cells and the nucleus?

The disintegration or rupture of the cell membrane, resulting in the release of cell contents or the subsequent death of the cell.

in biology you will get big words with this magical "ysis" thing at the end. its actually part of a bigger suffix. synthesis which basically means the joining of something or the replication of something. in mitosis of cells in interphase the DNA synthesize and creat carbon copies of each other. in laymans terms, its just a funny bio term that means joining things together or just simply messing with them at the molecular level. hope i helped!!

It is the breakdown of a cell by rupture of the cells wall/membrane.

e.g Haemolysis - Rupture of red blood cells (Erythrocytes)

"What does this have to do with cells and the nucleus?"
It doesn't really have that much to do with the nucleus, However... during experiments cells are often lysed with chemicals to break down the cell and extract DNA from the nucleus.
