Is the Kaplan turbine a reaction turbine or an impulse turbine? I found both, but I think it can only be one.?

It's a type of Francis turbine.
A reaction one.

In an impulse turbine the water gives up its energy by a reduction in velocity. (Pelton wheel)
In a reaction turbine the water gives up its energy by a reduction in pressure. (Francis turbine)
I believe the Kaplan turbines method of removing energy from the water is closer to the Francis. There is probably a little of the impulse going on too.
