Sample response: As an intrepreneur, I have all the benefits and resources available at my company — equipment, a facility, manpower, expertise, advice, funding, marketing, legal support, market research, distribution, and so on. As an entrepreneur, I would have none of those resources. I would need to buy all of my own equipment and hire my own people, not to mention renting space just to do the work. Being an intrepreneur would definitely be the safe way to go. Expertise from people within the company could help me avoid the pitfalls that befall most start-ups — undercapitalization, failure to make a detailed-enough business plan, and so on. On the other hand, the safety that intrepreneurship provides is perhaps too great a price to pay for the lack of control an intrepreneurship provides. As an intrepreneur, I am not really the boss. Someone else is always making the final decision about what to do. As an entrepreneur I have total control — and total motivation to succeed. Ultimately, I think I would choose the entrepreneurship route for my venture and go it alone.
