A scientist wanted to compare the evolution of the families Balaenopteridae (the rorqual baleen whales) and Delphinidae (the dolphins). Balenopteridae consist of about 11 species while Delphidae consist of about 41 species. The scientist proposes the hypothesis that evolution has occurred more rapidly in Delphinidae due to their active, predatory lifestyle, while the baleen whales, who hunt less actively, maintain a lower rate of evolution. What is fundamentally flawed about this proposal?
