Why are religious standards frequently suggested for comparison as ethical standards for individuals and organizations?

Religious standards are absolute standards. As such, these standards do not change through time so they can always be used. It is also easier to compare a company's ethical code or standards against a fixed - rather than relative - standard. Many religious standards also speak to economic issues as well.
