The chromosome theory of inheritance sought to explain Mendelian patterns in terms of chromosome movement. Can you think of an experimental approach to test for the Mendelian principle of segregation using chromosomes?

If replicating chromosomes could be chemically marked, permitting identification of each daughter chromatid, the movement of each could then be tracked. Radioisotopes are commonly used in such labeling experiments.
