I know what both of them are basically, but I'm still confused. Is EGT only between organisms of the same phylum? Or is EGT a type of HGT?

EGT is gene transfer between an endosymbiote (a symbiotic organism living inside another organism) and the host organism

HGT is gene transfer between two independent organisms

EGT is mainly used to explain how the genes of the ancestral mitochondria and chloroplast endosymbiotes migrated to the genomic DNA of the eukaryotic cell but is seen in some protists as well.  HGT is a process we can observe today, usually between related species of bacteria.
