These newly unearthed statues represent two mythological creatures - a snake, which is a symbol of the underworld, and Cerberus, the three-headed watchdog of hell in Greek mythology. Dated to the 2nd Century BC, these marble statues would have guarded the entrance to a deadly cave in the ancient city of Hierapolis in Turkey.
